On the road again: Bangkok, take 2

Posted by on Sep 12, 2013 in Travel | 0 comments

I just arrived in Bangkok again for work (it’s a good thing I really like this city!). I was going to give a blow-by-blow of the food on the flight, but then I decided against it. I’ve found that if you travel a particular route or airline frequently enough, the meals tend to be pretty predictable. Given that I did this flight just a few weeks ago (see my posts here and here), I had a pretty good idea what to expect. In fact, the routineness of it all gets to be pretty boring. Routine is actually a pretty apt word for the entire flight.

Lunch at MBK in Bangkok and the trip home

On my last day in Bangkok, I was planning on a quick lunch at a small vegetarian restaurant in Banglamphu. Instead, a friend of mine was heading to MBK, one of Bangkok’s megamalls, for some shopping before she headed to the airport.  I had heard good things about Big Papa, a vegetarian food stall located inside of MBK’s international food court, and so I decided to join her for lunch and check that out instead.

More Delightful Bangkok Eats!

Last night I dined at Thamna Hometaurant on Samsen Road in Bangkok with a group of friends and colleagues.  It’s a fairly basic restaurant in a renovated house with high ceilings serving vegetarian and vegan Thai and western food. It’s open daily for lunch (11am – 3pm) and dinner (5pm – 9pm).  And wow – it was good! Really, really good.

Bangkok: Vegan Paradise

Bangkok: Vegan Paradise

I’ve been in meetings almost constantly since I arrived in Bangkok and most of my meals have been at my hotel.  However,  I have made it to two of the city’s many vegetarian and vegan restaurants.

On Saturday evening after a long day of meetings a group of us went to May Kaidee’s Vegetarian Restaurant on Samsen Road for dinner.  The small restaurant was packed when we arrived, but they managed to squeeze our group of five in.  The menu consisted of traditional Thai dishes and the selection was not huge, but it was exactly what I was hoping for.

The Long Journey to Bangkok (Part 2)

The Long Journey to Bangkok (Part 2)

I hate sitting still. I used to be able to sit at a computer all day or take a twelve-hour flight and get up just once or twice to use the bathroom.  But that is definitely not the case any more.  I actually find sitting for too long painful, both physically and mentally.

So, now instead of hanging out in the lounge the entire time, I use the opportunity of waiting for flights to take a nice long walk around the airport, get my circulation flowing, and get in some exercise before I’m forced to sit for extended periods of time.
