Warwick, NY Restaurant Review: Conscious Fork

A couple of weeks ago I was using the Happy Cow app to browse for restaurants that were not too far from where I live in the mid-Hudson Valley, NY and came across the Conscious Fork in Warwick.  How did I not hear of this vegan café and store previously? When I checked out their website, I was excited to see what they had to offer: simple, healthy, vegan comfort food with lots of fresh, organic vegetables.  My partner and I headed out there last Monday for lunch.

Conscious Fork’s menu is comprised of rice, quinoa or salad-based bowls; you can make your own bowl or try one of their Far East or Tex Mex bowls.  They had so many great veggies on offer that day, including sweet potatoes, roasted broccoli, kale, carrots, mushrooms, onions, sauerkraut, and cauliflower, along with black beans and tofu.

It all sounded so good that I decided to go for a small tasting bowl on a base of salad greens so I could try a little bit of everything they had on offer that day. I topped it off with some of their hempseed pesto dressing. My partner decided to try the Far East bowl, with brown rice, five-spice kale, sesame carrots, baked tofu and ginger tamari sauce.

I also got a “mighty mermaid smoothie” comprised of kale, blueberries, banana, and rice milk; and my partner got a freshly made lemonade.

The verdict? The food was really delicious! It really was home-style comfort food.  The roast broccoli was scrumptious – so flavorful. The five-spiced kale was so great, definitely my favorite of what was on offer.  The sweet potatoes just yum, and I could go on and on.  The hemp seed pesto definitely added something special to the whole thing.

The smoothie was good, but not great. I like my smoothies thick, creamy and icy and this was more like a juice.  Next time, I’d give it a skip and try one of their many juices instead.

We really enjoyed it and we’ll definitely be going back!
