Vegan Gluten-Free Meatloaf

When I was in DC for work recently, my colleague suggested we go to Founding Farmers for dinner. I took a quick look at the menu online, and saw that they had a a few vegan options. Plus, I loved that they were committed to local, organic farm-to-table food (even if it isn’t entirely vegan or vegetarian).

Transiting through Istanbul
Lentil Soup

Lentil Soup

Sometimes flights and airport layovers can be such a drag, and sometimes they can be fun.  Yesterday I flew from Warsaw to Addis Ababa via Istanbul and at one point I even enjoyed it.

The Lot Polish Airlines lounge was nothing fancy: your typical business class lounge. Their vegan offerings were whole fruit and salted peanuts.  And the Lot Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw to Istanbul was relatively quick and uneventful.

Washington, DC Restaurant Review: Sweetgreen

I’ve eaten at Sweetgreen before in DC and really enjoyed it, so I wasn’t entirely sorry.  This time I went for the spicy sabzi salad, the lentil soup and the cranberry ginger green tea.

Addis Ababa Restaurant Review: Itegue Taitu Hotel’s Vegan Lunch Buffet

When I was doing my research for vegan restaurants in Addis Ababa before my trip I found two: a café called Green Arts Coffee and the vegan lunch buffet at the Itegue Taitu Hotel.  Early on in the trip, I made an unsuccessful attempt to get to Green Arts Coffee. Either it wasn’t open, had shut down or I just couldn’t find it (there are no street addresses in Addis, everything is relational).  Happily, however, I did manage to drag my colleagues to the Itegue Taitu Hotel’s vegan lunch buffet one day when there was a long gap in the meetings we were attending. I’m so glad we made the effort!

Addis Ababa Restaurant Review: Lime Tree Café

My days in Addis were very long, with meetings that started early and extended late into the night (and sometimes early morning).  I had far too much room service those nights when I just had no energy for anything else (although that was mostly good!), and a couple of times I ended up at an eatery close by my hotel called the Lime Tree Café.
