Chocolate Chai-Spiced Green Smoothie

A couple of weeks ago when I had an open can of pumpkin purée I needed to use I tried my hand at a pumpkin chai-spiced smoothie. It was good, but I was lacking at least two of the key ingredients among the chai spices and so it didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to.  Next time I open a can of pumpkin purée (which will no doubt be soon), I’ll try it again. 

But, in the interim, I picked up the missing chai spices and tried my hand at a chocolate chai-spiced green smoothie.  And wow, it was better than I ever imagined it could be.

There are a lot of ingredients in this smoothie, most of them spices. But don’t let that turn you off. Believe me when I say, it’s worth it. Oh yes, it is. 

Chocolate Chai-Spiced Green Smoothie

  1. 2 cups kale
  2. 2 bananas, frozen
  3. 1½ cups of almond milk or other vegan milk
  4. 1 cup ice
  5. 3 tbsps of hemp protein powder (or other protein powder) (optional)
  6. 1 tbsp flax seeds
  7. 3 tbsps raw cacao powder
  8. ¼ tsp cinnamon
  9. 1/8 tsp ground cardamom
  10. 1/8 tsp all spice
  11. 1 clove
  12. 1 section of a star anise seed pod
  13. ½ tsp vanilla
  14. 1/8 tsp salt
  15. Tiny dash of pepper (I used black pepper, which is what I had on hand)
  16. Stevia, to taste
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth.
  2. Drink up!
