Product Review: Daiya Cheese Lover’s and Fire-Roasted Vegetables Pizzas

My partner and I love pizza. We would eat it just about every meal if we could (and if it were healthy)! Due to my “special needs” I usually make my own these days, but sometimes when I’m feeling lazy it’s nice to be able to pull out a frozen pizza from the fridge and pop it in the oven for a quick meal. The only problem was that we hadn’t really found a gluten free, vegan pizza that we really loved. Until now.

We were excited a few weeks ago to find the Daiya Cheese Lover’s Pizza on our local supermarket’s shelves. I had heard about Daiya pizzas, but thought like most that I’d have to give them a pass because they wouldn’t be gluten free. I was so wrong and so delighted when I saw that Daiya uses a gluten-free crust. Of course, we snapped up a couple immediately.

The instructions say to heat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, place on the middle shelf and back for about 15 minutes.  I decided to put it on a pizza stone on the top shelf to make sure the cheese would melt and brown a little. It was nice, toasty and ready in about 10 minutes.

Doesn't it look good?

And the verdict: It was great.  It had the perfect balance of sauce and cheesiness. The crust was thin and crispy, just the way I like it. Overall, two big thumbs up!

Last week we went to the health food store and found the roasted vegetables version, so we decided to try that one as well.

I also heated this one for 10 minutes in a 500 degree oven on the top shelf. I like my pizzas loaded, so I would have liked a few more roasted veggies.  Some nice chunks of spinach would have been good, instead of the small flakes that appeared scattered over the pizza. But, it was still absolutely delicious.

My partner declared that he “liked the one with stuff, better than the one without” so it sounds like Daiya’s roasted veggie pizza is going to be our go-to for that quick and easy, lazy frozen pizza dinner!
