Happy New Year!

I don’t know about you, but I woke up happy this morning and excited for the prospects of new beginnings.  I’m not making big resolutions this year, I’m simply planning to do more of the things that are good for me and my relationships and less of the things that are harmful. I resolve to be a better listener. To put more care into what I do. To eat more raw foods. To eat more foods in season. To exercise more. To sleep more. To drink more water.  And to laugh every single day.

Oh and to blog more. There’s that too.

To start the year off right note, I made this beautiful cara cara orange and pomegranate green smoothie for breakfast today and it was so right, I thought I would share the recipe with you all.

I love cara cara oranges. There is something beautiful about their pink flesh. They are incredibly sweet and juicy when they are in season and fresh.  This is the perfect time of year for indulging in them. Pomegranates are also in season right now and together they are lovely. Not to mention, all those antioxidants!

A dear Brazilian friend, Joana, told me a few years ago that in Brazil it is a tradition to nibble on seven pomegranate seeds on New Years and then keep the seeds in your wallet for the year.  It’s supposed to bring wealth. That’s not necessarily my goal this year (although not worrying about money would definitely be nice), but nibbling on pomegranate arils is a definitely a good way to kickstart a healthy year too!

Yum!

Yum!

And now I’m off to spinning! I hope your new year is happy, healthy and full of laughter.
