Chocolate Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie

I’m updating the old adage that an apple a day keeps the doctor away to a green smoothie a day… First, because I’m allergic to and can’t eat apples. And second, because I think it’s actually true!  I can’t remember the last time I got a cold, or got sick enough to actually visit a doctor. And the one or two times I’ve not been well in the past couple of years, it really has been due to sheer physical exhaustion from travel or work.

The other great thing about green smoothies is that there are endless possibilities and opportunities to be creative.  If I find myself in a bit of a smoothie rut, I’ll head to the supermarket and look for some fruit I haven’t tried before or something that is a little bit different to mix it up a bit. Adding a small amount of dried fruit to a smoothie adds some concentrated sweetness and beautiful rich flavors. Different nuts and seeds can add protein and healthy fats. You can also experiment with different kinds of nut milks. While almond milk is my go-to, cashew milk is gorgeous and creamy and hazelnut milk is a decadent treat. It’s amazing what a bit of green, some fruit, and liquid can do!

This green smoothie is a stunner. The addition of a bit of jam after it has been blended makes it very special indeed by adding intense bursts of strawberry (or raspberry or blueberry) sweetness! It’s a bit more decadent than the usual green smoothie, but it is still packed with healthy ingredients that taste delicious and are good for you!
